Winchester, Va. – December is a time to celebrate, and this month the City Meat Gallery is hosting a holiday party on Friday, December 7, for the opening of the Friends and Family Show, a benefit for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Winchester, Frederick and Clarke Counties. The exhibit features images submitted by amateur and professional photographers and artists from the community, and across the globe.

“The response to our call for participation has been overwhelming, and very heartwarming,” said show host, Georgiana Dearing. “We’ve had submissions from across the state, the west coast, and even a few from a photographer in Italy. And our friends in the community have been gracious and very generous. It’s going to be terrific to see the gallery packed with prints.”

The images in the show will be available as 6 in. x 6 in. photographic prints, mounted on black art board. Prices will be posted, and guests can make purchases on the spot (for themselves or as a unique gift).  Water Street Design has donated the cost of the prints and mounting boards. All proceeds will go directly to Big Brothers Big Sisters.

“We are thrilled to be partnered with Water Street Design on this great event,” said Big Brothers Big Sisters Executive Director Juli Ferrell. “Visiting the City Meat Gallery is a treat every time they host a show. This First Friday also gives the community a wonderful way to invest in our one-to-one mentoring programs and pick up some unique art pieces for the holidays.”

The exhibit is open to the public on Friday, December 7, from 6:00–8:00 p.m.

Winchester, Va. – On Friday, October 5, City Meat Gallery will participate in downtown Winchester’s First Friday Celebration of the Arts with an exhibit by photographer Robert H. Clark.

Robert H. Clark is a fine art landscape photographer based in the United States. Born in North Carolina, he is a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Visual Design, and the School of Architecture at Georgia Institute of Technology. Robert is a photographer, graphic designer, architect, and a teacher. He currently works as a media designer for the National Park Service.

In this exhibition, “Chasing Light,” Robert features his new landscape work from recent trips to the West Virginia highlands, the Navajo lands of Arizona, Death Valley, and the Eastern Front of the Sierra Mountains, California. In these new photographs Robert takes viewers on a journey featuring the high alpine landscape of Dolly Sods Wilderness, the elegant waterfalls of Black Water Falls State Park, the multi-colored canyons of the Navajo Nation, and the intriguing rock formations of the Alabama Hills in California.

Robert’s work can be found in private collections, exhibits and publications, and internationally for corporate clients.

The exhibit is open to the public on Friday, October 5, from 6:00–8:00 p.m., and through November 23 by appointment.

All images are archivally printed by the artist, using state of the art Epson printers and inks, on 300gsm MOAB Somerset Museum paper.

Winchester, Va. – On Friday, August 3, City Meat Gallery will participate in downtown Winchester’s First Friday Celebration of the Arts with an exhibit by contemporary artist Donna Clark.

Clark’s widely acclaimed paintings and mono-prints present a sense of light and place that is both unique and compelling. She describes her work as seeking to capture “atmospheric illusions of light that transcend subject matter and evoke abstract images related to natural elements” and is inspired by “the sunrises, sunsets, clouds, rain, mist and sunshine that appear outside my studio windows.”

Born in New York City and living most of her life in the Lower Hudson Valley region of New York State, Clark has exhibited throughout New York and New England as well as regionally, and has received numerous awards and honors. Clark studied painting, printmaking and photography at Bard College.

Clark is the lead artist of the Old Aldie Rectory Studio in Aldie, Virginia.

The exhibit is open to the public on Friday, August 3, from 6:00–8:00 p.m., and through September 21 by appointment.

I create contemporary landscape paintings and mono-prints in my studio located alongside my historic home at The Old Aldie Rectory built in 1803. I am inspired by the sunrises, sunsets, clouds, rain, mist and sunshine that appear outside my studio windows. I seek to capture in my paintings and photographs atmospheric illusions of light that transcend subject matter and evoke abstract images related to natural elements.

Biography

Born in New York City, Donna Clark lived most of her life in the Lower Hudson Valley region of New York State. She studied painting, printmaking and photography at Bard College where in 1972 she earned a BA degree in painting. While attending Bard she developed a passionate interest in printmaking and photography. She had the unique opportunity to study monotype printmaking with the renowned master printmaker Matt Phillips.

Donna has exhibited her work throughout New York State, including New York City, and New England. Her work is represented in many individual and corporate collections. Donna has received numerous awards and honors for her work. She received a CAPS Individual Artist Fellowship in Painting from the New York State Council on the Arts and several Individual Artist Grants for Painting and Printmaking from the Dutchess County Arts Council. In 2011 & 2012 she received 4 awards in photography at the Waterford Festival in the Best of Loudoun County and Historic Buildings categories. Donna has widely exhibited her work locally as well as at the Zig Zag Gallery in The Plains and at Plank and Nickel in Middleburg.  In April of 2012 as a guest artist she presented “New Paintings” in a one person exhibition at the prestigious Art Square Gallery in Leesburg.

The sometimes pondering, sometimes whimsical bears by illustrator Joe DeZarn have graced the posters of the Bluemont Summer Concert Series for more than 25 years.

Meet Joe DeZarn, the man behind the Bluemont Concert Series bears, from 5-6pm. Then head down with us to the Old Courthouse at 7:30pm to hear him play with the Flaming Shillelaghs for the Bluemont Concert Series.

Erik Michael Zimmerman has always been intrigued by the little things in life. As a child he doodled in class, and took an interest in the nature that surrounded him. Even as a young boy at football practice, to his teenage years performing bike stunts in the city streets of Pennsylvania, he admired nature’s canvas. Erik graduated from the Art Institute of Philadelphia in 1995, and delved into his graphic design career.

Owner of White Spider Design since 1998, Erik recently also launched Erik Michael Photography to share his passion for photography. As a member of the Shenandoah Photographic Society, Erik has learned from, educated, judged and competed with fellow photographers. On many occasions, he was honored to bring home winning entries.

Although Erik enjoys photographing many different subjects, landscapes are his passion. He lives in beautiful Lake Holiday, located in Cross Junction, Virginia, where he finds many opportunities to enjoy and share nature’s canvas.
